A Simulation question allows you to record a real application environment in which the candidate needs to solve the question.
To access this question type, in Authoring Tool:
- From the Home screen, click on Questions.
- Click on CREATE QUESTION.
- Click on the question type: Simulation.
Note. To edit this question, search the question and click on Edit. Review How to edit a question to more information.
- Choose the test to which the question will belong.
Note. Observe that a question cannot be created if you do not link it to a test before.
- Select the skill group to which the question will belong to.
- Next step is filling in the following fields:

- Stem: write the question.
Note. If you need to insert code when creating the question (in the Stem, in the options or in the Explanation), please follow these step: click on the {;} icon, select the language (HTML, Javascript, CSS,…) type the code and, later, click on the OK button. If you type the code directly, it may not display correctly.

- Exhibit: alternatively, you can add images as additional information. Images can be added when you create the question. You can select them from the Media Library or browse to them in your computer when you are creating the question. Those images you select from your computer will be stored in the Multimedia Library.
- Explanation: write any information that can be useful to understand why the answers are right or wrong.
- Click on Instructions & Downloads. You will see the following instructions:
Note. It is recommended that you read the instructions to save the simulation carefully.
STEP 1. Download and install the Simulation Recorder tool to record. Make sure that JAVA is already installed on your computer. Once you have downloaded it, open the executable file, which will install the application automatically.
STEP 2. Fill the properties fields of this Simulation and click on Save.
STEP 3. Open the App you want to simulate, click on Record Sim to launch the recording application, and start to capture.

- Alternatively, you can modify the timeout between the click and the time in which the screenshot is taken by using the Seconds between click and screenshot option
- Start the simulation recording by clicking the Start Recording button:
- Select the area that you want to record.
- Click in every spot that the simulation demands so the application captures them.
- When are satisfied with the results, click on Start Recording.
- To complete the process, click on Save Simulation.
- The page will reload, and the saved simulation will show.

STEP 4. Click on Simulation finished. At that moment, you will be able to edit the position and the area where the candidate should click to go from one screenshot to the next.
- Click on SAVE.
